Welcome to VSMA

Welcome to the home of Volunteer State Model Aviators, AMA Charter Club 3961. We are a growing club with members of all ages, backgrounds, and skill levels. Originally formed in Springfield, TN, VSMA now resides in Cedar Hill, about 15 minutes from Springfield and 5 minutes from exit 19 off I-24. We maintain a 500 foot by 100 foot grass runway with one of the largest, most wide open flying fields in Tennessee.
Aerial Shots of VSMA Flying Field - Courtesy of Tim Stone!

Tim Stone took aerial pictures of the VSMA flying field Friday using his helicopter platform and 10 megapixel camera. Tim professionally shoots aerial photos and video for various commerical projects. A lot of club members have asked about getting better pictures of the field, so a huge thanks to Tim. These pictures will be posted in the Club Info portion of the website so we can show off one of the best flying fields in TN:

Memorial Day Flying- Monday May 26th

Come join us for flying on Monday, Memorial Day. VSMA historically enjoys a strong turnout on Memorial Day. Jeff and Eddie are working on making this year no exception! Monday will be a great day to fly: mid 80 degree weather and sunny, blue skies. Bring your airplanes and the family!
Jim Bush Fly-In Review

The first Jim Bush Fly-in is in the books. Everyone agrees Jim would have loved the event and probably can't believe we named and held the event in his honor.
The fly-in was a huge success! The weather threatened to wash out the event but by the time Saturday arrived, the skies turned clear, sunny, and blue. The wind probably supressed turnout on Saturday, but the wind died down on Sunday and Sunday became an unofficial extension of the fly-in. The pilot fees, raffle tickets, and concessions raised over $1,000 for the club.

Jim Bush War Bird Fly-In - May 3rd - AMA Sanction #08-1001

The Jim Bush War Bird Fly-In will be this weekend, Saturday May 3rd, starting at 8am and ending after dark (slow stick flying after dark?). Warbirds are the main focus of the event but other types of planes are welcome. We will raffle at least 5 ARF's and other nice prizes as well. We'll also have concessions. This event is being heavily promoted and will be first class!!! Click here for Flyer (thanks to Darren Jarrel for the flyers). The rain date for this event is May 4th and if that's rained out, then May 10th.
A few of the larger prizes are pictured below and you can click the picture to see more information about the prize (many other gift certificates and smaller prizes are not pictured):
Be sure to thank our sponsors when you give them your business! A huge thank you to our sponsors of this event:
