Tim Stone took aerial pictures of the VSMA flying field Friday using his helicopter platform and 10 megapixel camera. Tim professionally shoots aerial photos and video for various commerical projects. A lot of club members have asked about getting better pictures of the field, so a huge thanks to Tim. These pictures will be posted in the Club Info portion of the website so we can show off one of the best flying fields in TN:

Memorial Day Flying- Monday May 26th
line

spacer
Come join us for flying on Monday, Memorial Day. VSMA historically enjoys a strong turnout on Memorial Day. Jeff and Eddie are working on making this year no exception! Monday will be a great day to fly: mid 80 degree weather and sunny, blue skies. Bring your airplanes and the family!

Jim Bush Fly-In Review
line

spacer
The first Jim Bush Fly-in is in the books. Everyone agrees Jim would have loved the event and probably can't believe we named and held the event in his honor.

The fly-in was a huge success! The weather threatened to wash out the event but by the time Saturday arrived, the skies turned clear, sunny, and blue. The wind probably supressed turnout on Saturday, but the wind died down on Sunday and Sunday became an unofficial extension of the fly-in. The pilot fees, raffle tickets, and concessions raised over $1,000 for the club.

Barn Bustin' Billy Kemp!!!

Check out this video of Billy Kemp, as he power drives a Corsair through the roof of a barn near the VSMA flying field. Later in the video, Newt, Jeff, and others retrieve parts from the barn roof and inside the barn where the plane left a hole in the roof. Click here to View Part 1 and here for Part 2.

The video is divided into 2 parts. Click here to View Part 1 and here for Part 2.

The Labor Day Extravaganza
line

spacer
Although not an official fly-in, this holiday weekend drew a surprisingly large group of pilots and spectators. A special thanks to: Wayne and Teresa Kackley for bringing the burgers, hot dogs, and drinks; Chris Quinn for cooking; Glenn Sheppard for bringing the grill; and Lanny Coggins, Sr. for the dessert pies.

A couple of crashes, a lot of commaradarie, good food, and a pair of giant scale Curtis Jenny's highlighted this Labor Day Extravaganza.

What a Weekend! Warbirds on Saturday / General Flying on Sunday
line

spacer
This crowd didn't let a few popup rain storms put a damper on things. . .

June 30th:
Saturday was the type of hot, humid day made more for swimming pools than flying fields. But the warbird diehards were out in force, making the best of a very humid day.

A VSMA Exclusive: Watch Newt split the trees on takeoff with Eddie's new warbird. And then for the landing, only one retract wheel would deploy. What a test flight! (Click here for Video Gallery)

July 1st: Sunday drew a larger crowd and a number of spectators. A special thanks to Lanny Coggins for doing registration, James Batts for cooking, and everyone else for not crashing all weekend.
