Lease
The draft of the lease was read by Gilbert Pitts.
Murph is using area behind the barn to maneuver his tractor and equipment. We should change lease so that he is responsible for maintenance of the road for 150 feet beyond the barn.
John Rohde moved that the lease be approved. Frank Profitt seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.
Cumberland Flyers
Warren Blaine stated that the Cumberland Flyers will liquidate their club. Those members that want to join our club will follow the normal mechanism, paying a full membership. He thought that 6 members may join VSMA.
He stated that we might be able to get a special deal on their mower. It is one year old and they paid $1500 for it. Gilbert Pitts stated that if we spent that much on the mower, we might want to build a shed to protect it from the elements.
Solo & Warbird Certificates
Bobbie Schweikert brought great drafts of the certificates for club approval. John Rohde moved that we approve the certificates. Newton Derryberry seconded the motion which was unanimously approved. The solo certificate is included with this file.
Jim Bush Fly-in
Frank Profitt moved that the fly-in be held on April 18th, with a rain date of April 25th. Newton Derryberry seconded the motion which passed unanimously.
Susie Mosley volunteered to run the catering. It was said that hamburgers, hotdogs, and chips should be for sale. Lanny Coggin, Jr. bravely stated that his wife would help with the catering.
Jeff Breeden will donate a plane.
Newton Derryberry will donate a plane.
There was a vigorous debate as to whether the club should purchase a plane for the raffle. At the end of the debate, it was decided that we should wait and see what items are donated by various sponsors.
Mowers
Mike Winnaught wanted to know if he should test the mower to make sure it is in tip-top shape. President Breeden told him to look at it.
President Breeden also asked the members of the now disbanded Cumberland Flyers to determine the price they would want for their mower.
Gilbert Pitts stated that if we do purchase the mower, we should build a shed to house it.
Lanny Coggin Jr. stated that he has a shed he would sell to the club for $1500.
Airfield Modifications
The ladder that Billy Kemp proposed last month in order to make it easier to get over the fence was discussed. Newton suggested that we use the blocks from the grill to make steps to get over the fence. While that would be fine on the airfield side of the fence, a portable step would be needed for the other side.
New Business
Larry Mullican – Action Hobbies Membership
Larry has been a club member for many years, but does not fly. In addition, Larry has generously sponsored several club events. In recognition of this, Bobbie Schweikert moved that VSMA exempt Larry Mullican from having to be a member of the AMA. The motion was seconded by Lanny Coggin, Jr. and passed unanimously.
Non-Flying Sponsorship
Mike Winnaught moved, and Lanny Coggin, Jr. seconded, that a membership category entitled “Non-Flying Sponsor” be created in the by-laws. The member is to have voting rights. The motion passed, with Billy Kemp opposed.
The exact wording of the change must be proposed, debated, and voted upon at the March meeting.
The meeting was adjourned at approximately 19:00.
