Minutes


April 6, 2008



President Jeff Breeden called the meeting to order at 15:05.
Club Officers Present: Jeff Breeden, Darren Jarrell, Gilbert Pitts
Club Members Present: 16

There was a brief discussion of Introductory Pilot Instructors. Currently, Joshua Bond and Patrick Reese are listed as instructors. Some members thought that Newton Derryberry should be added to the list.

Jeff Breeden presented the Treasurer’s report as Lanny Coggin, Sr was absent. The club has $788 and an additional $125 that was just paid by Jeff Strain for his dues.

Wayne Kackley moved to accept the minutes from April 2, 2008. The motion was seconded by Warren Blaine. The motion passed unanimously.

Jeff Brown stated that he would donate 200 feet of chain link fencing to the club for use as a barrier at the airfield.

New Business

James Batts moved that the June meeting be postponed until June 8th. The motion was seconded by Eddie Teague and was passed unanimously.

James Batts moved that the July meeting be postponed until July 13th so that it wouldn’t be on the same weekend as July 4th. The motion was seconded by Ricky Boyd and was passed unanimously.

Old Business



Clean-Up Day
There was a discussion of the airfield clean-up day that was supposed to be held on March 22. On March 21, Jeff & Sandra Breeden, John Rohde, and Gilbert Pitts began and finished the field clean-up. They were assisted all day by Murph Winters who helped dispose of the old spools with his tractor. On April 6, Newton Derryberry donated $50 to the club. Jeff Breeden gave $30 of this donation to Murph Winters to reimburse him for his fuel and time on March 21. The remaining $20 of Newton’s donation is to be used for repairs to the field fence.

More New Business

There was a brief discussion of another fly-in for 2008. It was decided that we should discuss another fly-in after the Jim Bush Memorial Fly-In on May 3rd.

Jeff thanked everyone for their donations of time and money.

Jim Bush Memorial Fly-In
A lot of sponsors have signed on to support the fly-in. Three P-51’s have already been donated. Several people have worked on acquiring the donations, they are: Jeff Breeden, John Rohde, Bobbie Schweikart, and Eddie Teague.

The sponsors and items donated so far are:

Airfield
There was a discussion concerning the fencing. We can purchase poles for the fencing for approximately $7 each. The poles can be cut in half before use.

Jeff Breeden initiated a discussion concerning the airfield lease. Gilbert Pitts moved that Jeff Breeden be allowed to renew the lease for another 5 years at a cost of $2000/year. The motion was seconded by Eddie Teague and was passed unanimously.

More Old Business

Mowing
James Batts reaffirmed his offer to mow the field twice/month. He also announced that he had purchased a 14 foot (1500 lb) roller at an auction for $80 to be used at the airfield. Billy Kemp moved that VSMA reimburse James for the roller. The motion was seconded by Wayne Kackley and was passed unanimously.

More New Business

Jim Bush Memorial Fly-In
James Batts reported that he will run a ¼ page add in the I-24 Interchange paper for the fly-in.

Gilbert Pitts moved that the fly-in rain out date should be Sunday, May 4th and if the weather is still bad, the fly-in should be postponed to May 11. The motion was seconded by Wayne Kackley and was passed unanimously.

The concessions were discussed. James Batts said that he would provide Polish sausages, ribs, hot dogs, etc. Members suggested that he serve other items such as breakfast, coffee, chips, and desserts. James moved that he pay VSMA 15% of his total sales for concession rights. The motion was seconded by Billy Kemp and was passed unanimously.

James Batts will bring 6-8 tables for use during the fly-in.

The raffle and prizes were discussed. Jeff Breeden and James Batts will purchase raffle tickets. The raffle will end at 5 pm. Ticket holders must be present to win.

James Batts will bring a PA for the fly-in as the club’s PA was reported to be unreliable.

Sandra Breeden will work at the registration table.

Lanny Coggin, Sr., Gilbert Pitts, and Dick Tonan will work at the frequency board.

Darren Jarrell and Mike Stokes (potentially) will be the MC’s.

Safety Officers will be J.W. Plummer, John Rohde, and Jeff Strain. There will be a maximum of 5 planes in the air at any time! Gilbert Pitts moved that all pilots be required to have a spotter (not one of the safety officers) at all times. The motion was seconded by John Rohde and was passed unanimously.

Joshua Bond and Patrick Reese will provide instruction and introductory flights to interested spectators.

A discussion of the parking and porta-potty was held.

Gilbert Pitts moved that Jim Bush’s son be allowed to bring some of Jim Bush’s R/C equipment to the fly-in and seek offers. The motion was seconded by James Batts and was passed unanimously.


Patrick Reese will put together a memorial display in honor of Jim Bush for the fly-in.

Jeff Breeden announced that another meeting will be held on April 26th to discuss last-minute fly-in preparations.

Yet Again, More Old Business

Eddie Teague suggested that Round-up be used to kill the vegetation around the fences. Jeff Breeden volunteered to apply it. Gilbert Pitts moved that Jeff Breeden be allowed to use Round-up for this purpose. The motion was seconded by Newton Derryberry and was passed unanimously.
